A Year of Head South: Progress, Setbacks, and Gratitude

A Year of Head South: Progress, Setbacks, and Gratitude

It’s hard to believe that just over a year ago, Head South was only a dream—quite literally. One morning, I woke up with a vivid image of bottles being filled with intimacy serums as they moved along a conveyor belt. Anchored by a commitment to open, shame-free conversations about pleasure and sexual wellness, that dream quickly evolved into a movement. And today, Head South thrives through the conversations on our podcast, Head South Radio, and the launch of Slip Serum, Slide Serum, and Oasis Oil—products crafted to deepen our connection with our bodies while honoring the planet.

Building Head South has been a whirlwind of emotions. From exhilarating milestones to the small, quiet moments of progress, and everything in between, it’s been filled with both triumphs and challenges. Navigating this journey on my own as a solo founder has been an experience like no other. There have been days of deep anxiety and self-doubt where I questioned everything, wondering if the sacrifices were worth it. And like any small business owner, I’ve faced my share of setbacks, learning to pivot quickly, and let go of plans that weren’t working. Saying goodbye to team members has been one of the toughest moments. We’ve welcomed new team members into our fold and said goodbye to others as they set off to pursue their dreams and grow in new directions. While bittersweet, I couldn’t be more grateful for their talents or  prouder of where their journeys are taking them.

At times, imposter syndrome creeps in, and I catch myself wondering if I’ve done enough or if we could ever compete against bigger brands with celebrity backing and massive budgets. But then I remember everything we’ve accomplished in just one year—without an agency, a marketing team, or VC funding. We hosted a beautiful launch party, participated in three trade shows, earned incredible press coverage, podcast features, and blog mentions, secured wholesale orders from mass and boutique retailers, and (most importantly) played a role in impacting how people connect and experience pleasure.

Throughout it all, I’ve pushed myself to keep learning—taking courses, working with advisors, and growing not just as a business owner but as a person. I've had to confront my fears, embrace patience and trust timing, even when the path feels unclear.

None of this would have been possible without the incredible support system surrounding me. My partner, John, has been my anchor, helping me stay grounded through every moment of uncertainty. My parents have offered endless love and encouragement, and my new business partners—who also happen to be my best friend and my brother, Joie and Mel—have brought fresh energy and creativity to this journey. Our friends & family investors and creative collaborators have been there through every high and low. And, of course, you—the Head South community of podcast listeners and everyone who values and supports our mission. Your belief in this brand, and in me, has been my strength through every challenge.

As we celebrate one year, I’m filled with gratitude for each of you who has embraced what it is that we do. Whether you’ve been with us since the beginning or are just discovering Head South, you’re part of something bigger. Together, we’re transforming the conversation around sexual wellness—making it more inclusive, empowering, and free of shame.

Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for trusting Head South with your pleasure. This is just the beginning, and I’m excited to see what the future holds.

With pleasure and gratitude,
